Tough Mudder North West 2018
Team EDS has made us proud by completing the notorious Tough Mudder challenge. As they battled against mud, water, ice, electrocution, heights, barbed wire and more, the teamwork and camaraderie pulled everyone through. All 18 members of Team EDS managed to finish and are now covered in bumps and bruises, but are already talking about enrolling next year!
The team took part in the challenge to raise money for Derian House Children’s Hospice, who provided Kenton Joe with exceptional care. In January 2017 Kenton Joe Ritson, aged 5, who was close to many hearts at EDS was diagnosed with a Medulloblastoma stage 4 brain tumour. Kenton endured 5 surgeries to remove the tumour, a 6-week high intense course of radiotherapy and 4 months of high intense isolated chemotherapy. Unfortunately, after Kenton’s courageous fight his family was told in October 2017 that the treatment hadn`t worked.
Kenton was physically and mentally exhausted by this point so Manchester children’s hospital referred Kenton to Derian House Children’s Hospice where they looked after Kenton and his family to a care that is beyond words.
Kenton passed away peacefully with his whole family around him on the 10th December 2017. Derian’s support compassion and love they showed him and his family hasn’t ended there, they are still caring for his family supporting them in learning to live without Kenton now.
Derian House provides exceptional care to all children and families. It receives little statutory funding and as a charity they need £3.85 million a year to continue to meet the needs of children and families throughout Lancashire and Cumbria. Anything that can contribute to this funding means a lot to Derian house and to the families and children they care for.
