Mental Health Awareness Week 2020

As Mental Health Awareness Week (18-24 May) draws to a close it is important that we look after our own, and our colleagues’ mental health beyond this week.

This year’s focus has been kindness.  Being kind has always been important, but in light of recent events it is even more vital. Whether that is being kind to yourself and doing something about it, or being kind to others and openly recognising when they need support - no matter how big or small.

Many of us are working from home. Many are also juggling homeschooling, small children, looking after vulnerable relatives, whilst missing friends and family. Yet we still have to get the day job done. Even with the increase in video calls, Zoom quizzes, FaceTime and other online communications, nothing beats a face to face catch up or meeting, where you can comfortably share thoughts and ideas.

As a company we take kindness and mental health seriously. Our ethos is all around sharing our knowledge not withholding it which means that we thrive on supporting others.  We were proud to be recognised in the top 15% with an International Safety Award from the British Safety Council  - another demonstration of our commitment to taking wellbeing seriously.

So let’s take a moment, let’s keep talking about our own mental health, and make sure it doesn’t stop this week.  Make time to call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, whether that is a colleague or an old friend. And more importantly, be kind to yourself. The last few months have been challenging, juggling life, work, the additional pressures of family life at home - so be kind to yourself, now and always.
