EDS HV: Coronavirus (COVID-19)
People rely on us to keep their critical infrastructure available to maintain security of supply. In these unprecedented times, it’s even more essential than ever that we help keep the lights on and keep vital services running, with no interruption.
Our most immediate thoughts are with those who have been personally affected by this virus, either directly or indirectly, and we are doing all we can as a business to contain the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) to keep our workforce, our clients and the world at large, safe.
Following government guidance, where possible we are now working from home with the exception of our Control Centre staff who continue to provide essential services. With offices across the UK and operating at sites across the globe, we are adept at working remotely and have provided detailed guidance and processes to help ensure the smooth running of operations despite these trying circumstances.
We have Microsoft Teams for video conferencing firmly embedded within our organisation and we are using this as a tool to continue with meetings, both internal and external. In addition, we are holding daily catch-ups to talk about non-work issues as well as projects. Where we can we are trying to maintain some normality and our sense of humour at this difficult time.
Working from home is not always easy, particularly in such critical roles. The psychological wellbeing of our team is vital and as such we have provided guidance to all our colleagues in how best to manage their mental health during this time, and offer them all ongoing support.
Our business continuity plans have been revised to take into account the potential impact on our operations, and we are confident that we can weather this storm, together. As a team familiar with operating in extremely challenging conditions, we know how to handle a difficult environment.
The safety of our clients’ personnel is paramount, and we are working tirelessly to provide support where we can.
The complexities around continuing to provide this support is something we are actively working through, and is under constant review. Our organisational structure means we are well placed to cross borders and place engineers where others would struggle. In particular, in the cases in which local teams can’t attend sites due to either infection, risk of infection or travel restrictions, we are on hand to extend this support where we can.
We are closely monitoring advice given by the government and the World Health Organisation which will inform all our future actions. Stability in energy infrastructure is vital during a crisis and we understand the importance of the part we play in this. But for now, we want to thank everyone for their continued support and for pulling together as one planet at this difficult time.
